Legal Battle Over Custody of Julián Figueroa's Son

Maribel Guardia and Imelda Tuñón are in the middle of a legal conflict over the custody of José Julián, son of the late Julián Figueroa. Imelda Tuñón, widow of Julián Figueroa, is a Mexican actress and singer born in Veracruz on December 5, 1996. At the age of 21, in 2017 she married the son of Joan Sebastian, and from this union José Julián was born, who is currently the center of the dispute between Maribel Guardia, his grandmother, and Tuñón.

Imelda Tuñón became a widow on April 9, 2023, when she found Julián Figueroa deceased in their home, expressing in an interview her comfort in knowing that he apparently passed away peacefully. Following this tragic event, the conflict over the custody of José Julián was triggered.

Maribel Guardia has announced through a statement that she filed a lawsuit against Imelda Tuñón to ensure her grandson's safety. Although Guardia clarifies that she does not seek to damage the image of José Julián's mother, she hopes the authorities will take the necessary measures to protect the minor. In this regard, the Mexico City Prosecutor's Office has ruled to grant custody of José Julián to Maribel Guardia, a decision that was announced by journalist Carlos Jiménez. After evaluations and expert assessments, it was determined that the boy's integrity would be better safeguarded under the care of his paternal grandmother.
